The overall target of the project is to make sure that Cercivento become an "Open-air Bible."
Through art, it means affect believers and non-believers, locals and visitors, with a basic text for Western civilization in general and in particular Friulian: the Sacred Scripture.
We expect to identify the biblical theme paths in the squares and streets of the village with the creation of mosaics, murals, frescoes, on the walls of private homes and public buildings.
Each artwork is accompanied by related Bible verses in Friulian and Italian language.
REASONS OF THIS PROJECT
- We want to publicly affirm the importance of the Word of God because we are convinced that it sustains us, as individuals and as communities, in the process of conversion: the Word of God is living and active, penetrates the hearts and thoughts of man (Heb 4,12).
- We recognize, without fear and with gratitude, that our culture and our identity is built up and evolved thanks largely to the contribution of this Word.
- We believe that the grace of our village is increased thanks to the artistic itineraries that we intend to place along the streets and squares.
- Hopefully Cercivento become for many people a place to recreate in the Spirit. Whether this also occurs, we would receive extra motivation to maintain it and make it more attractive.
The Open-Air Bible Cercivento, surprisingly achieves the wish expressed in the year 787 by the Fathers of the 2nd Ecumenical Council of Nyssa, where they stated:
"Proceeding on the royal road, following the divinely inspired teaching of our holy Fathers and the tradition of the Catholic Church - in fact, we recognize that the Holy Spirit dwells in it - we decree with full precision and care that, like the representation of the precious and life-giving cross, so the venerated and holy images, whether painted or made of mosaic or any other suitable material, are to be exhibited in the holy churches of God, on sacred vessels, the vestments, on walls and panels, in houses and in the streets ... ".
The holy images become silent word. And not only the Bible is proclaimed. But in physical contact with the image of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Apostles, the Prophets, and of all the saints, divine life is communicated.
