SUTRIO

A couple of kilometers from Cercivento down towards Tolmezzo, we find one of the most characteristic areas of the But Valley. The village has an ancient woodworking tradition along the cobbled streets of the town you can see several statues made by local craftsmen. Of particular interest, in the center of the country, it is the "Teno crib" (open all year long): a reproduction of the Nativity set in a carnic landscape, all the statues are made of wood, the result of thirty years of work of the craftsman Gaudenzio Straulino. From Sutrio starts of one of the roads leading to the Monte Zoncolan, which is very well known for its ski slopes and its strong road testing the ability of cyclists from all over Europe.

RAVASCLETTO

From above Cercivento, continuing along the road to Sella Valcalda, you arrive in a few minutes in Ravascletto. The village, located at almost 1000 m. on sea level, is a popular resort especially in winter, since from here the modern cable car to Monte Zoncolan, the largest ski area in the region with its 28 km of slopes. In summer the location is an ideal starting point for hiking and walking, on all those that lead to the so-called "Panoramica delle Vette" (a flat road at high altitude, almost 5 km long, also accessible from the nearby Tualis) and Monte Crostis.

TIMAU

This part of the municipality of Paluzza is the last village in Italian territory, along the road leading to Passo Monte Croce Carnico. The name of the village is tied closely to the facts of the Great War: from here start several footpaths, trails by soldiers and the Carnic carriers, leading to the mountain boundary Pal Piccolo - Pal Grande - Freikofel, where have been restored trenches and fortifications (both in Italian territory as well as in the Austrian one) to keep alive the memory of those tragic days. In the village you can also visit an interesting museum on the theme of the 1st World War and a Temple Ossuary.

ARTA TERME / ZUGLIO

About ten minutes from Cercivento down towards Tolmezzo, you get to Arta Terme: the local spa, frequented in the late nineteenth century by the poet Carducci, is a modern center for the treatment of respiratory diseases; it also opened recently an articulated wellness area. A kilometer away is Zuglio, important "Forum Romanum" (Iulium Carnicum) along the Via Julia Augusta: in the village is a must to visit the Archaeological Museum and the excavations. Dominates the two villages, built on a very panoramic hill, the ancient church of St. Peter, the current building dates from 1312 but you have already mentions the church in the early ninth century.
