THE GOOD SAMARITAN
For the Fathers of the Church, Jesus is the Good Samaritan, the one who gets the next man laying down in the street, the one who is the "neighbor" to be loved. In the West the episode has a moralistic interpretation: we have to be prepared to be "good Samaritans", the others saviors. We need to identify ourselves first of all with the one who needs to be helped, medicated and bandaged. And our savior is God who becomes our next. He is the distant God who made himself neighbor, who collected Adam and took him to the inn - the feature of the Church - delivering the hotelier (the Holy Spirit or even Peter) the two coins, the Old and New Testament symbol (so Severus of Antioch) useful to heal the man.
