8. THE CRUCIFIXION

THE CRUCIFIXION
'Behold your mother!' (Jn 19, 27)

(From the Bible the work reference tracks produced by Mosaic School of Friuli and, in short, the comment / explanation of Paolo Orlando author of the artworks. Ph. Ulderica Da Pozzo)

Jn 19, 25-27
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw his mother, and beside her the disciple whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son." Then he said to the disciple: "Behold your Mother."
And from that hour the disciple took her with him.

Jesus' death on the cross is not merely the death of a man. Jesus is the Son of God, the Lord of Life, the one who wanted to face death and win it. Thus St. John Chrysostom can say "I see him crucified and call him King."
The cross is planted on Golgotha, which means "mountain of the skull" (hence "ordeal"), a term that suggests the presence of a skull, significantly considered to Adam.
In fact, even the first man, the founder of the old humanity over into the pit of death because of sin, is redeemed by the new Human blood. Mary is not only the first of the saved, it also becomes the mother bows to Christ to intercede against all.
John, which in Hebrew means "beloved of God," is the disciple who did not flee in the face of death and receive the gift of being his son.

"Having once tasted death under the forbidden tree, Adam has found life under the tree of the cross." Adam is identified in the whole human race, which takes the same benefit because "as another Paradise, the Church has now (...) a tree of life: your life-giving cross. While enjoying its fruit all have part of immortality".

"On the cross, Christ has given death to the author of our death. It made life and beauty to those who had been deprived and, in the excess of his goodness and his mercy, he gave them the right to citizenship in sky".

"O Christ, nailed to the cross you have raised the fallen man; the Word of God you have overthrown the power of the enemy, so I sing your passion that freed me from my passions
When you went up on the cross with your body, O Lord, you have called us to recognize nations who ignored you, or just merciful Christ our God.
O sinless Christ, crucified, you take away the sin of the universe: the spear that has pierced your side flows out streams of salvation and with the water and the blood plasmas you again mankind hit by death.
When you were nailed to the cross, or Savior, the whole creation was shaken, the sun stopped sending its rays, rocks were split, and hell was stripped unable to resist your power, O Lord "(texts of the Liturgy Oriental).

[Read the Catechism of St. John Chrysostom (3, 13-19; v. Office of the Good Friday Readings):
"If you want even more deeply understand the power of this blood, considering where he began to slide and from which sprang the source. He was shed on the cross and flowed from the side of the Lord. A Jesus who died and still hanging on the cross, says the Gospel, he approached a soldier who opened with a spear His side: there came out blood and water.
The a symbol of baptism, the other of the Eucharist. The soldier opened his side: opened the sacred temple, where I discovered a treasure and where I have the joy of finding wonderful treasures ... It came out blood and water side. Beloved, do not spend too much on easily to this mystery. I still have another meaning to explain mystical. I told him that water and the blood is a symbol of baptism and the Eucharist. Now the Church is born from these two sacraments, from this bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit through baptism and the Eucharist. And the symbols of baptism and the Eucharist came out from the side.
So it was from the side that Christ formed his Church, as from the side of Adam was formed Eve. This is why Paul uses the expression: we are of his flesh and of his bones, for Adam, so Christ has given us the water and the blood from his side to form his Church. And as Adam's side was touched by God during sleep, so Christ gave us the blood and water during the sleep of his death.
You see how Christ joined to himself his Bride, you see how food nourishes us. For his blood we are born, with his blood nourish our lives. As a woman feeds her child with her own milk, so Christ constantly nourishes with his blood those who created "].
